“I’m old Savannah, I graduated from Brewton Parker College in 2005. I was already in real estate, in new construction, when I was finishing school. I was quick to get my real estate license when I was 21. I’ve been licensed for 13 years.
“I started the Heather Murphy Group in July 2011 when my twins were six months old. I still like being part of the Keller Williams brand. We’re the largest franchise in the world with 300 agents in Savannah alone and more than 100,000 in the U.S.”
what she does
“I sell homes. I assist in buying and selling; I advise clients on buying and selling and lending options. We assist our sellers with home improvements and staging if needed. We bring in an interior design expert to get the house ready for the market.
“We may bring in furniture, assist in de-cluttering. We may bring in contemporary and traditional dining room pieces, draperies, accent pieces, everything. We are the source of professional photography to make sure our properties get the best exposure in web and print.”
“I have a real estate team. I have two closing coordinators and one listing and marketing manager. Also, as independent contractors, I have three buyer specialists and one whose focus is listings. I have a licensed stager who is an independent contractor, a photographer who is an independent contractor and a housekeeper who is an independent contractor. I like creating opportunities for others.”
why she’s successful
“I’m passionate about what I do. I love real estate. I sell lifestyles, not just the house. I enjoy being a matchmaker, putting property owners and buyers together. It’s fun. My team and I close more than 200 homes a year. There’s a lot of hand-holding. We treat everyone like a first-time buyer. Our job is to educate the consumer.
“I tell them what they can anticipate for the sales cost and any surprises within the buying and selling process. We help the buyer get everything in place from the lending process to the home inspector.”
“You don’t build a business. You build people, and then people build the business.” — Zig Ziglar
“I have the top producing team in my office and one of the top producing teams in the state and region for Keller Williams. We’ve got lots of awards.”
“My family, my children.”
“To grow my team. Creating opportunities locally and regionally, expanding to other markets in the Southeast. We cover Chatham, Bryan and Effingham counties now. We cover all the islands. We cover Pooler, Richmond Hill, downtown, midtown and the south side. If you give us an address, we’ll know where it is.”
tips for other businesses
“As cheesy as this sounds, live by the golden rule.
• Build a strong foundation so you don’t grow too fast and implode.
• Lead by example. I wouldn’t ask anybody to do what I wouldn’t do myself.
• Find great mentors. I’ve had a couple along the way — one in the industry, one outside the industry — someone that holds me accountable to what I do, to be authentic about who I am.”
things to avoid
“Never sell out of desperation. And watch your expenses. I have a business plan, and I review it frequently.”
why does Savannah work for you
“I’m a native, and I love the city. And I’m passionate about the laid back life of Savannah, the southern style of Savannah. I love the southern hospitality and the charm. And the fact that we’re just a plane ride, a quick two hours, from New York City. I hope my children continue what I do. I have little name tags for them that say ‘agent in training.’”
