A new breakfast joint is headed for Broughton Street. North Carolina-based Rise Biscuits Donuts announced its first Savannah location on Monday.
The restaurant, which will feature both sweet and savory breakfast and lunch options, will open in May at 10 West Broughton St. This will be the franchise’s first Georgia location.
“We are excited to bring this creative, chef-driven concept to Savannah,” said Shane Johnson, who will own the franchise with his partner, Cristol Johnson.
Shane, a Savannah native who trained at The Culinary Institute of Savannah, has worked in several local restaurants. Cristol is an accountant with more than 20 years experience in accounting, marketing and business ownership. The Johnsons plan to open two additional Rise restaurants in the Savannah and Augusta areas over the next three years.
“Rise puts a fresh spin on doughnuts and biscuits, taking all the things you love about them and amping it up with bold flavors. We want to be a destination for delicious breakfast and lunch downtown,” Shane Johnson said.
The first Rise Biscuits Donuts location opened in Durham, N.C., in 2012. Rise has won multiple national awards and has also been featured on Food Network’s Donut Showdown. The menu includes old favorites like country ham, pimento cheese and roasted pork loin alongside the restaurant’s new school doughnuts including maple bacon bar, king cake and pineapple basil.
The quick-serve concept will feature counter ordering and limited seating in its 1,264-square-foot store. Rise Savannah will also offer pre-ordering and can provide doughnuts and biscuits for parties of all sizes.
