Hundreds of Savannah business owners and entrepreneurs donned their finest garb for the Urban Savannah Chamber of Commerce’s first meeting and awards banquet Friday evening.
The organization, which has more than 200 members, seeks to support minority-owned businesses in the Savannah area, said John Voner, founding president and chairman.
“We are really excited about tonight,” he said. “The Chamber is all about equal opportunity, and our goal is to help level the playing field for everyone. Tonight we want to recognize these business leaders and their contributions to their community. We have so many who have accomplished so much.”
Friday’s event featured a fundraising silent auction and cocktail hour with speed networking. Awards were also presented to various business owners.
Otis Johnson was presented with the Urban Lifetime Achievement Award.
