Largest container ship set to sail from Savannah at 9 a.m. Saturday

The OOCL France, the largest container ship ever to call on the East Coast, is expected to leave the Port of Savannah Saturday morning at 9 a.m., sailing for Charleston.

The France, which took the title from the COSCO Development when that ship came in less than a month ago, is 1,203 feet long and 159 feet wide. She is capable of carrying 13,208 TEUs, some200 more than the Development.

If her scheduled departure holds, the ship should pass River Street between 9:30 and 10:30 Saturday morning.
