Visitors to the Hostess City can now have the touch of a local right in their fridge when they arrive at their vacation rental.
“It’s really convenient to get everything situated before they get there, so it’s an experience. It’s nice not to have to sit your stuff down and go to the grocery store when you might not know where it is,” said Kari Hillard, owner of Shop + Stock, a local grocery delivery service.
Hillard, who launched the company in March after working for a big box delivery service, has teamed up with Lucky Vacation Rentals as a preferred vendor to fill the needs and fridges of visitors.
“I realized that they weren’t hitting a certain market since Savannah is such a touristy destination, so Shop + Stock was born,” Hillard said.
Each order requires a $27 fee, but the company doesn’t markup prices and there are no membership fees and Hillard shops where you do, no matter if it’s Wal-Mart, Kroger or Whole Foods.
“It’s very customizable,” she said.
Locals can also take advantage of Shop + Stock, which lets customers ditch digital ordering for written lists. Hillard said her service is ideal for pregnant women or people with disabilities and she’s also hoping to team up with area assisted-living facilities.
“… For some people they can just pick it up themselves, but for others if you’re going to go that to order you want it just to come to you,” she said.
“With me it’s more personal. All of these other companies have 50 shoppers and you never know who you’re going to get… I know the questions to ask, know how to make a career out of it and the sense of the professionalism that needs to happen.”
With the market for grocery delivery services continuing to grow with companies like Kroger, Wal-Mart, Instacart and Shipt, Hillard said the biggest challenge is getting people to be open to the progressive service, but she’s hoping her level of personal service will set her apart from the big chains.
“It’s new and I think that once people try it and get to know it it becomes such a lifesaver. I can’t tell you how many times I hear that… I’m really hoping that not having an app and them getting to know me personally will be a little bit more comfortable,” she said.
“… At the end of the day I want everyone to like what they got, get great customer service and say, thank goodness I didn’t have to go to the store for all of this.”
